If you’ve ever found yourself mindlessly stuffing your mouth full of popcorn or chips, you’ve experienced boredom eating. It’s something you do as a way of passing time, of keeping yourself busy, so you can keep putting off what you really don’t want to do.

No judgment here; we all boredom eat sometimes. Nonetheless, boredom eating is definitely not a healthy habit as you probably often reach for foods that fall into the not-so-nutritious category. You probably snack on quick and easy things like chips or candy.

The problem is that when you eat out of boredom, it’s never actually satisfying. You get a few bites in and realize you weren’t really hungry in the first place. To prevent yourself from doing this, make it a point to ask yourself if you are hungry before grabbing the chips or a bag of M&Ms. If you aren’t actually hungry but feel like you need something to keep your mouth busy, try chewing on a piece of gum or drink a non-caloric beverage.
