“I always write to find my point. Over time, I’ve realised that I’m trying to create something very specific here, and it’s a place rather than a topic. I’m clearing a space in which we can gather, and see each other, and ruminate over the question of how to live.”
Katherine May, The Clearing
Reflections
This website has been in the making for years. It’s only recently that my vision for it is starting to materialize. Nevertheless, to this day, I’m still working out what it is that I’m trying to create.
Last week, I found myself immersed in the world of Substack and somehow landed on Katherine May’s newsletter The Clearing. The quote above is an excerpt from the newsletter’s about page. These words deeply resonated with me.
I, too, am trying to create a place rather than a topic. My intent is to build a place for connection rather than just a site about food. Food serves as the starting point, a way into deeper conversations about how we live. Ultimately, I want to create a space for curious minds to gather and reflect on life’s complexity.
Katherine goes on to say:
“My aim is to create a place to dream and to awaken, to find the world’s quiet magic and to revel in the luminous mundane; a place to ask questions and to hold space for complex or incomplete answers; a place that invites connections with other like-minded souls.”
Such beautiful writing that so clearly expresses what I, too, aspire to create.
